What quilts are for..

I hurried and finished this quilt just in time for my very sick little Alex to snuggle up into. It is very warm and appliqued with hearts so I told her that having her around her is a big

hug from me. She loved it so much it ended up in her bed with her last night!!

It is freezing here right now the closeby ranges of the Kawekas are white with snow. Our whole family is sick with a bronchial type cough cold . So winter truly is here and summer is now just a distant memory.

New bathroom

Yah!! We are finally putting in new bathroom. The old bathroom with no ventilation was becoming a health issue (not to mention a 1960s nightmare..) and so it is all going forth. mainly near new but second hand products are going in (the bath the shower the vanity) and this has proven how much cheaper this is than buying new, although the ventilation, plumbing etc , towel racks etc are new.
It is so grotty looking now half pulled apart, the rotting boards opened for all to see, but as it was grotty before in pinks, purples and tiles that held onto black mold like glue, now it may be ugly but it is an optimistic ugly. So exciting to imagine our new bathroom.

Possibly my most boring post yet..palstic bags

First start off with a bag, pressed out in the correct way..

Fold in half and then half again..

\
Now fold up into a triangle..

And another all the way up to the top..

When you get to the end tuck the little left over bits in the triangle pocket that is left..

Apparently this is the way flags are folded. This is not my clever scheme someone showed it to me and I think it is wonderful!

I KNOW I shouldnt be using plastic bags and by and large I dont...but there are times when Im caught on the hop, when my twenty four resusable bags are in theother car, left at home or some such thing, or when I blindly chat away to the staff while my groceries are being packed up at the end by a staff member Anyway the thing is i seem to have a ever growing collection of the t
hings. I donate them to op shops who ask for them but this little way of folding them up has kept me and my children and een gorgeous hubby occupied. When the plstic bags are folded like this you can store them neatly in your bag, car anywhere and pull them out as required.

My new door wreath

I love making door wreathes. This is my latest made from dried lavender and strawflowers. Several seasons old the bunches were gathering dust in my room and so needed a new job here.

I got the idea of these wreathes from Martha Stewart a couple of years ago (what idiot took that off the Nz airwaves i wonder) I went a bit mad making them from grape branches and putting them every where. Infact I believe someone took a liking to the ones on my Dads grave because they kept being nicked!

I have wadding and backing for my pastel and hearts quilt but before I could even lay it out to sandwhich it all together, I began another quilt. I have finished all the sawtooth stars and am now doing the main part of the quilt. When will I learn to finish one quilt before beginning another.

And I have been reading this book. If you have even an ounce of simple living in your bones you will LOVE this book. It is outstanding and the best I have read... It just has to line up with the everyday chores, quilting, walking the dog for miles(Im on a new health regime) etc before I can read it ..
Gorgeous hubby just bought me an Ipod. I love it, but Im almost too scared to use this new toy. It can take 2000 songs(!!) More than enough to keep me happy on my walks and (hopefully soon runs.
